Why start a #SkinFIT conversation?
It seems like every day there’s a new makeup or skin care trend that everyone is following. Strobing, contouring, highlighting are all techniques that were previously only possible if you were a makeup artist or stylist. Now, anyone and everyone can readily achieve these looks with products, tools and video tutorials to help you create this, just like a pro.
But for the majority of every day makeup users the pressure to look like something out of a magazine can be overwhelming. My conversations with women and men have revealed that they find the influx of professional products and techniques both a blessing and a curse.
On the one hand, it says to them, ”Go forth and create all the dazzling looks you always wanted - you don’t need a makeup artist, just DIY!” But on the other, “This is the proper way to do makeup, so if you can’t get this right, don’t bother.” It sends a distorted message of every day beauty; how we should present our authentic selves, and it makes it hard for individuals to replicate these looks at home. So, they give up. But they shouldn’t have to.
I want #SkinFIT2016 to open up a conversation that stops our body shaming and changes the way we approach beauty.
